Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a "nose job," has been a popular cosmetic procedure for decades. Traditionally, it involves surgical intervention to reshape the nose. However, advancements in cosmetic procedures have introduced a non-surgical alternative known as non-surgical rhinoplasty. This convenient procedure offers a less invasive, reversible option for individuals seeking to enhance the appearance of their noses without the downtime and potential risks associated with surgery and general anaesthetic.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty involves the use of injectable dermal fillers to reshape and enhance the nose. Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, which requires incisions and the restructuring of nasal tissues, non-surgical rhinoplasty is performed through a series of injections.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is suitable for individuals who seek minor adjustments to the shape and contour of their noses. It is often recommended for those who want to:

  • Correct nasal asymmetry.

  • Smooth out bumps or irregularities.

  • Slim the nasal flare.

  • Lift the nasal tip.

  • Enhance the overall symmetry and balance of the nose.

However, it is crucial to note that non-surgical rhinoplasty is not a solution for individuals seeking significant reductions in nose size or those with structural issues that require surgical correction.

Several types of dermal fillers may be used in non-surgical rhinoplasty. At Oakridge Aesthetics we use hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, making these the most biocompatible and safest treatment option.

The Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty procedure

Consultation

Before undergoing non-surgical rhinoplasty, individuals should schedule a consultation with a qualified and experienced practitioner. During this consultation, the practitioner will assess the patient's goals, discuss realistic expectations, and determine if they are an appropriate candidate for the procedure. This consultation is free at Oakridge Aesthetics and can be a standalone appointment where you go away and consider your options or continue immediately to treatment if you prefer this option.

Preparing for the Procedure

Unlike surgical rhinoplasty, non-surgical rhinoplasty typically requires minimal preparation. Patients may be advised to avoid blood-thinning medications and alcohol in the days leading up to the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising.

The Injection Process

  • Topical anaesthetic: To minimize discomfort, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area.

  • Injection points: The practitioner strategically injects small amounts of filler into specific points on the nose, carefully sculpting and reshaping as needed.

  • Massage and moulding: After injecting the filler, the practitioner may massage and mould the product to achieve the desired shape and contour.

Duration of the Procedure

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a relatively quick procedure, typically taking 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the corrections.

Aftercare and recovery for Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

Immediate Results

One of the key advantages of non-surgical rhinoplasty is the immediate visibility of results. Patients will notice the changes in the shape and contour of their noses immediately after the procedure.

Temporary Side Effects

While non-surgical rhinoplasty is considered safe, some temporary side effects may occur, including:

  • Swelling: Mild swelling is common but usually subsides within a few days.

  • Bruising: Some patients may experience bruising at the injection sites, which can be concealed with makeup.

Resuming normal activities

Non-surgical rhinoplasty requires minimal downtime. Most individuals can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, it's advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and saunas for a short period.

Longevity of results for Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

The longevity of non-surgical rhinoplasty results varies depending on the type of filler used. Vivacy, the manufacturer of our chosen filler suggests that results should last approximately 18 months.

Follow-up appointments

Follow-up appointments are essential to monitor the results and address any concerns. In some cases, touch-up treatments may be recommended to maintain the desired appearance. At Oakridge Aesthetics we like to review you at around 14 days to discuss your results and any tweaks you may like to make. This appointment is free, but not mandatory. If you are happy, so are we and you can cancel this appointment if you so wish.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty risks and considerations

Common risks

While non-surgical rhinoplasty is generally safe, there are some common risks associated with the procedure, including:

  • Infection: Though rare, there is a slight risk of infection at the injection sites. If you have any concerns about infection, please contact us. We are health professionals and can provide you with the necessary antibiotic treatment if this is necessary.

  • Bruising and swelling: Some degree of bruising and swelling is normal but usually resolves within a few days.

  • Allergic reactions: While extremely rare, allergic reactions to dermal fillers can occur. This risk is minimised by choosing reputable fillers and receiving treatment from a qualified practitioner. Should a reaction occur, we are fully equipped to deal with this in our clinic.

Uncommon Risks

  • Vascular complications: In rare cases, fillers can inadvertently be injected into blood vessels, leading to vascular complications. This emphasizes the importance of choosing a skilled and experienced practitioner. We have an in-depth knowledge of the vascular supply to your face, and only inject safe zones so please be reassured that we would not put your safety at risk.

  • Necrosis: In extremely rare instances, filler injections can lead to tissue necrosis (cell death) if blood flow is compromised. This risk is minimised by avoiding high-risk areas during injections. Should we have any concern that we have compromised your blood supply we hold a stock of emergency filler dissolving injection at Oakridge Aesthetics and would use it immediately if we felt this was required.

Choosing a Qualified Practitioner

Certification and Training

Selecting a qualified and certified practitioner is crucial for a safe and effective non-surgical rhinoplasty. As with any injectable, we would always recommend you choose an injector with a medical background so they can manage any complications that may occur. We would always highlight there is a significant difference between a non-medic who has been ‘trained’ to manage a complication, to a medic that deals with medical emergencies as part of their daily role.

Clinic and facility standards

Choose a clinic or facility that adheres to high standards of cleanliness and safety. A clinic run by medical professionals will have additional safety nets that may not be obvious to you but is extremely important for your safety. A medical injector will never inject you without having the appropriate drugs to keep you safe during an emergency, whilst a salon relies on the emergency services.

Consultation and communication

A thorough consultation is an opportunity to discuss your goals, ask questions, and assess the practitioner's communication skills. A skilled practitioner will listen to your concerns, provide realistic expectations, and explain the procedure in detail.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty offers a viable option for individuals seeking minor enhancements to the shape and contour of their noses without the commitment and risks associated with surgical rhinoplasty. As with any cosmetic procedure, thorough research, careful consideration of risks and benefits, and the selection of a qualified practitioner are paramount to achieving safe and satisfying results.

Always consult with a qualified medical professional before undergoing any cosmetic procedure to ensure that it is the right choice for your individual needs and circumstances.
