Micro Needling Application

Microneedling

Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy), is a cosmetic procedure that involves creating tiny puncture wounds on the skin's surface, triggering the skin's natural healing response which stimulate collagen and elastin production. The procedure  is often used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation. It may also be used to enhance the effectiveness of topical skincare products or prescription cocktail treatments to treat various skin conditions by allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Frequently asked question microneedling

When not to have microneedling?

Microneedling is generally safe for most people, but there are certain situations and conditions where it is advisable to avoid or delay the procedure. Here’s when you should not have microneedling:

Active Skin Infections or Inflammations - acne breakouts, cold sores (Herpes Simplex Virus), skin infections

Recent Use of Certain Medications or Treatments – blood thinners, accutane, corticosteroids

Recent Sunburn or Tanning

Open Wounds or Cuts

Use of Retinoids

Avoid Touching Your Face: avoid introducing bacteria and causing infection. Your skin will be more vulnerable immediately after the procedure.

Use a Gentle Cleanser: Cleanse your face with a gentle, non-foaming, and sulfate-free cleanser. Avoid using hot water; opt for lukewarm water instead. Pat your skin dry with a clean, soft towel.

No Makeup: Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Your skin needs time to heal without the risk of clogged pores or irritation.

Avoid Harsh Skincare Products: Skip products containing retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), vitamin C, or any exfoliating ingredients.

Hydrate Your Skin: Apply a hydrating serum or moisturiser.  Look for products containing hyaluronic acid or peptides to help with healing and hydration.

Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun exposure

Possible side effects of microneedling?

Whilst microneedling is generally considered safe and effective for various skin concerns, there are potential side effects that you should be aware of. Most side effects are mild and temporary, but there can be more serious complications in rare cases. Here’s a breakdown of possible side effects:

Common side effects

  1. Redness and swelling: after microneedling, it's common to experience redness (similar to a sunburn) and swelling in the treated area. This typically lasts for a few hours to a few days.

  2. Dryness and peeling: Your skin may feel dry and tight after the procedure, and you might notice some peeling as your skin heals and regenerates. This is a normal part of the recovery process.

  3. Bruising: some people may experience minor bruising, especially if the treatment is done around delicate areas like the eyes. This usually resolves within a few days.

  4. Skin sensitivity: treated areas may feel more sensitive than usual. You might experience discomfort when touching the skin or applying skincare products.

  5. Minor bleeding: during microneedling, especially with deeper needle penetration, minor pinpoint bleeding can occur. This is usually controlled during the procedure and stops quickly.
